This scene invoking quiet introspection and isolation was taken maybe just 100 meters from our home in Valencia. While there are several benches in the spot, there are rarely more than one or two people seated here. On this particular late afternoon, this gentleman sits waiting, thinking, or maybe simply taking a few minutes to rest before moving on.
I Heart Valencia
While his shirt says one thing, his face seems to say something very different. Perhaps his outward expression isn’t directed at Valencia? I didn’t look back to see the object of his ire, so we’ll just have to use our imagination. I do agree with the sentiment on the shirt, though. What a great place to be living 🙂
Caught You Lookin’
Just another day out shopping for some people in Valencia. I’m not sure if this pair in the lower right corner are waiting for someone inside the shop or if they’re just waiting. I liked the look of the scene with the two mannequins “standing” behind them and just as I clicked the shutter, one of them looked right into the camera as if to say “I see you there”.
And… Action!
These two definitely have different approaches to visiting the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. The young lady here is on her second or third “take” taking a video selfie in front of the massive architectural wonder behind her while her companion checks his phone.
What The??!!
When Fallas is in full swing here in Valencia, you can be sure there will be lots of opportunities to grab some interesting moments. This particular moment makes me smile every time I see it. There are two stories happening here (at least) with one being told by the young lady on the right and the one we can’t see in the frame that our expressive young lady on the left is seeing. Our out of “uniform” Fallera (judging by her hair) on the left’s expression here is priceless, and I look back on this and wish I had the wherewithal to have looked over to see what she was viewing.
Well, Where is It?
One of my favorite street shots since I started taking them. Shot on Carrer de la Pau here in Valencia, I absolutely love the expression on the woman’s face here as she patiently (or no so patiently) waits for her companion to hand her something. Since they’re standing at a door, I’m assuming he’s looking for the key, but I didn’t stick around long enough to see the ending of the story. Shot from the hip here and processed in Adobe Camera Raw.
Walk with Me – Salamanca, Spain
Digging into some of my earliest street photos here with this shot from Salamanca, Spain. This was taken during our Viking cruise in Portugal, which also included a day in Salamanca. Visiting this city not only offered some inspiring views, but it also was the point where Carmen and I decided we wanted to look into moving to Spain. I only have a handful of street images from this trip, but you can see the rest of them by clicking here.
Big Bunny – Valencia
On this November evening is 2022, the Plaça de l’Ajuntament was full of activity and the street performers were out in force, including this Big Bunny. We have several regulars in this area including Panda, Golden, and Polar “bears” along with a Bumblebee transformer, and several others. This interaction between boy and bunny caught my eye and was lucky enough to grab this moment before it got away.

Guitar Guy – Santa Fe, New Mexico
Captured in May of 2021, “Guitar Guy” is one of my favorite images from the streets of Santa Fe. This was a quick grab shot from “below the hip” as I had my A7rII held at the end of a relaxed right arm. The guitar carrying subject and his female companion (you can see her hand at the extreme right) were crossing the street up on to the sidewalk in front of me.
I didn’t see them until they were just about in front of me, so I quickly twisted the camera in their direction and clicked off a few shots. I wasn’t expecting to get much in frame, or in focus for that matter, but I really like this shot. The focus is pretty much correct but a shutter speed of 1/100 is blurring our musician here in a way that just works for me.
