Captured in May of 2021, “Guitar Guy” is one of my favorite images from the streets of Santa Fe. This was a quick grab shot from “below the hip” as I had my A7rII held at the end of a relaxed right arm. The guitar carrying subject and his female companion (you can see her hand at the extreme right) were crossing the street up on to the sidewalk in front of me.
I didn’t see them until they were just about in front of me, so I quickly twisted the camera in their direction and clicked off a few shots. I wasn’t expecting to get much in frame, or in focus for that matter, but I really like this shot. The focus is pretty much correct but a shutter speed of 1/100 is blurring our musician here in a way that just works for me.
